Accident Involving Red Light Runner Leaves Three People Seriously Injured

Comments (0)

In an example of what can happen when a driver runs a red light, three people are being treated at Carolinas Medical Center-Main in Charlotte, North Carolina (NC) after a Nissan and Kia slammed into each other at the intersection of Margaret Wallace Road and Idlewild Road.

Police are not sure which car actually ran the red light, but we do know one of the drivers was charged with driving while impaired and driving with a revoked license, according to wbtv.com.

Unfortunately, accidents involving a driver who ran a red light are not uncommon. In 2006, there were 171,000 car wrecks involving a red light runner which resulted in 83,000 injuries and 791 wrongful deaths in the U.S., according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

We don't know the extent of the injuries for the victims in the Nissan/Kia car crash, but given the fact that both cars sustained major damage, there's a higher-than-normal chance that the injuries are very serious.

Let this terrible accident serve as a reminder as to why it is crucial for drivers to respect and obey traffic signals. Three people are now facing a potential lifetime of pain and suffering because one person was reckless and decided to disregard a red light.
